Director’s Note
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a celebration of the quirky, heartwarming, and sometimes nerve-wracking journey of adolescence. It is a beautiful story of young people discovering where they fit in and of the importance of finding your people. Every character, either written or created by these young talented actors, ultimately realizes that they all have something magical to offer the world; and that is just to be themselves. As we bring this story to life, be prepared to embrace the humour, the vulnerability, and the triumphs of each character. The joy of this musical lies not only in the words spelled but also in the connections forged and the lessons learned along the way.
The actors you are about to see have grown in such a beautiful way, all individually, and as a cast. They are kind, supportive, and vulnerable with each other, and their bravery throughout this adventure can certainly be seen on stage. Throughout the process, we focused on how their characters would walk and speak, and how they would respond to each other. I think it is in the building of these relationships that we see the true meaning behind our show.
I am so grateful to be able to work and play in such a supportive and welcoming environment that is CA. I want to thank our incredible CA Creative Team who have all embraced me with open arms, and who have joined in to help every step of the way. As we know, “life is pandemonium” and it takes a village to raise a show, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the village we have here at Calgary Academy.
